bmurator Very interesting US Doom / Stoner. This is all very novel, at least for me :) Somewhere between Black Sabbath & Nirvana I would say... Absolutely love the cover! Thanks Swamp R! Recommended! Favorite track: Serenity.

Justin@BlindMouse Coming at you like a deranged and warped Jeff Buckley!! Blaise has honed his doom jazz with meditational essence. So many layers to enjoy with expired medication and and a warped sense of being.

TXMetalDude Very cool stuff here. The main thing that jumps out at me is that bass tone! Heavy and fuzzy. Doomy and soothing at the same time. Really dig this. Favorite track: Burning Wind Away.

... ...... .........

On the surface, Blaise the Seeker is a doom metal band that produces a melodic but dense sound that plummets and scatters between Nirvana and Monolord.

Their emerging social media presence hatches like a spawn of Gwar and Mr. Rogers, and even at a glance, there seems to be more to the story of Blaise the Seeker than memorable grooves and heady lyrics.

Is Blaise the Seeker a band? A character? A social media satire?

Answering that question inclines us to consider the artist behind the vision.

Blaise the Seeker is performance art. It’s a theatrical, spontaneous, and organic flow of creativity packaged into palatable music and an engaging, interactive social media experience.

A natural course for it to take, considering it’s the art project of an art therapist.

J Blaise Gans had been an artist his whole life, earning a BFA in Animation before studying psychology and achieving the ATR-BC and LPC that obtained him his career as a licensed art therapist.

Since graduating, he’s worked at the same psychiatric hospital for 5+years.

J Blaise is happy to help peel layers and untangle knots at his day job. His work’s emotional air may extinguish his energy level, but it also stokes the passion and work ethic behind his self-produced animations.

Blaise the Seeker seeks the fruit, not the flower; J strips the music, voice, and visual art from a massive animation project and boils them down into a streamlined creative process of a doom band active on social media.

He views his output with the level of commitment of a one-person animation crew; a multi-faceted art/doom metal project allows him a schedule that balances with his passion for his real-life art therapy.

But Blaise the Seeker isn’t the only messianic influencer on Instagram, a trend that irks the artist behind the band.

The titular character is more than just a satire of phony social media gurus— he’s an alternative to them.

The project’s accessibility and output frequency give healthy social media seekers a safe and fun place to learn from a qualified art therapist.

Their platform encourages followers to interact with J, both in character and out, in meditations that glimpse our most challenging emotions, feelings that enhance our perspective and empathy, all while nodding their heads to catchy doom riffs.

“There are deep psychological layers to all the lyrics,” says J Blaise, “moods that I have felt deeply and need to express so I can accept, understand, and act more closely aligned to the spiritual aspects within my atheistic worldview.”

So what exactly is Blaise the Seeker? Take a listen to their Debut Album Burning Wind Away on Bandcamp, and follow him on Instagram @ and YouTube @ to find out!
